GST Calculator

Calculate GST amount for a given base price or compute base price from total (inclusive of GST). Supports common GST slabs.

Enter a base price then tap “Add GST”, or a GST-inclusive total then tap “Remove GST”.

Usage

Use this calculator for quick GST calculations when preparing invoices or quotes. Choose intra-state (CGST+SGST) or inter-state (IGST) as needed.

GST without the acronym soup

CGST, SGST and IGST sound like three different taxes, but they're really just one tax sliced differently depending on geography. Sell within your state and the tax splits into CGST and SGST; sell across a state border and the whole thing becomes IGST. The customer pays the same total either way — only the label on the invoice changes. We unpack this properly in GST in Plain English.

Adding tax vs working backwards

Adding GST is easy: take the base price and apply the rate. Pulling the tax out of a price that already includes it is where people slip up, because you can't simply subtract the percentage. This calculator does both — tap "Add GST" when you have a base price, or "Remove GST" when the amount you've entered already includes tax and you need the split.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which GST slab applies to my product or service?

GST rates vary by category: 5% for essential items like packaged food, 12% for items like mobile phones and processed foods, 18% for most services and electronics, and 28% for luxury goods, cars, and tobacco. Check the official GST Council rate schedule for your specific product or service.

How do I calculate GST from a total inclusive price?

Enter the total amount (inclusive of GST) in the Amount field, choose the rate, and tap the “Remove GST (from total)” button. The tool back-calculates the original base price and the exact GST component for you.

What is the GST on services?

Most services in India are taxed at 18% GST. However, some services like healthcare, education, and export services are exempt or zero-rated. Restaurant services attract 5% GST (without ITC) or 18% for restaurants in hotels with room tariff above ₹7,500 per night.

Is GST applicable on exports?

No. Exports of goods and services are zero-rated under GST. Exporters can claim a refund of any GST paid on inputs used in manufacturing exported goods.
