How to use

Enter values and click Calculate to find percent of a value, or what percent one value is of another.

The three questions people actually ask

Almost every percentage problem is one of three: what is X% of a number, what percentage is one number of another, or how much did something rise or fall in percent. They feel different but they're the same idea — a part compared to a whole, scaled to 100. Once you see that, the formulas stop feeling like things to memorise.

A shortcut worth knowing

Percentages are reversible, which is handy for mental maths: 18% of 50 is fiddly, but 50% of 18 is obviously 9 — and they're equal. Flip the awkward one around and it often becomes trivial. For everything else, this calculator does it instantly, whether you're checking a discount, a tip, an exam score or a tax amount.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate percentage increase?

Percentage Increase = ((New Value – Old Value) / Old Value) × 100. For example, if your salary went from ₹30,000 to ₹36,000, the increase = ((36,000 – 30,000) / 30,000) × 100 = 20%.

How do I calculate a discount percentage?

Discount Percentage = ((Original Price – Sale Price) / Original Price) × 100. If an item costs ₹800 and is on sale for ₹600, the discount = ((800 – 600) / 800) × 100 = 25%.

How to find what percentage X is of Y?

Simply divide X by Y and multiply by 100. For example, 25 is what percent of 200? = (25 / 200) × 100 = 12.5%.
